experiments in tea #18: toast and jam (taylors of harrogate yorkshire tea)
An unexpected interruption from the loose leaf, but these flavoured teas from Yorkshire tea, especially the biscuit brew, came recommended to me by friends so I thought I'd get them when they were on sale at the local supermarket and try them. I have a sweet tooth, so I went for the jam first (also apparently the other one is better, so I'd rather go up than down.

Toast and Jam probably gets its flavour from the maltiness of an unspecified black tea, and the natural flavouring which smells like raspberries from the teabag but is also unspecified.
I'm leaning more towards loose leaf tea in general, because of the plastic in some teabags and the fact that the leaf is often fannings or dust which does infuse quickly but definitely is lower down on the quality scale (which is fine for black tea for me, but makes greens taste a bit shit, to be honest.)
Ingredients: Black Tea, Natural Flavourings (10%)

One teabag, 100°C for 4 minutes.
After tasting the black tea, thought it was too bitter when tasting on a teaspoon so added a splash of milk and one teaspoon of sugar.
It does smell like toast & jam from the cup, but as I have learned from fruit tisanes, smells are often deceiving. Wasn't really getting anything but black tea before the milk and sugar.
Hot Brew
Verdict: It does taste like toast and jam. The raspberry flavour isn't strong, but it's there, and with milk it was also quite creamy. I liked it a lot.
Lessons Learned: a) I like black tea more than green, and b) teabag black tea needs milk and sugar, unlike whole leaf tea which I can generally drink without it.
Would I drink it again? Well, I have 39 more teabags of this now and yes, I'll happily drink them.
