Saw this community recently and keep missing it on Fridays, but managed to catch it this week and thought it looked like fun! Check out the folks at [community profile] thefridayfive to join too.

1. What is the last book you read and what book(s), if any, are you currently reading?
I just finished my first reread of Kazuo Ishiguro's The Remains of the Day, because I want to write fic for it at some point, and also because [personal profile] edwardianspinsteraunt loves it and the first time I read it I was admittedly kinda skimming. (Stevens and his staff plans, y'all.)

Right now, I am reading and about halfway through Lauren James' The Starlight Watchmaker, which is a short sci-fi novella about an android watchmaker at an intergalactic academy who has to figure out who's stealing the quantum energy out of the students' watches in order to make a bomb. I've read James' work in the past, and this is definitely in a similar vein - science fiction, touching on IRL topics, and very lovely writing.

2. How about moving pictures? Are you a fan of any TV show or movie right now?
Ooooh. I'm watching... a few things, including Avatar: The Last Airbender and She Ra: Princesses of Power very slowly, but the last thing I watched and adored is still probably the C-drama Legend of Fei. Complex female characters, both good and bad, a love interest who's clever yet sometimes such a dork, and soulmates that are just relationship goals.

(Honorary shoutout goes to The Untamed which I won't be shutting up about for a very long time.)

3. What's your favorite genre, and why?
For watching, fantasy. For reading, which requires more brain power: as long as it's in the modern world and I don't have to construct anything in my head, I'll go for it.
Edit, a few weeks later when I realised the real answer: War. During, the set up to war, the aftereffects... I'm strangely drawn to war narratives. Though I appreciate them a lot more when they don't glorify war, which older US films have a tendency to do.

4. If we were all evacuating the planet, and you could only bring 3 unique works of entertainment for posterity, which would you pick? Let's just assume that we've coordinated it so there are no repeats.
Legend of Fei, Black Sails and 1917.

5. Do you make new works as well (fannish or original both count)? Or is that not your skillset/interest?
I do! I write, mostly fannish fic these days but occasionally I do play with some OCs that live in my head - I used to do novels, those are kinda on the backburner right now because I've learned that short fiction is my go-to, and also I like the feedback from writing fic, aha.
